In the spring of 1970, Møre Designteam (MD) by Svein Asbjørnsen, Jan Lade og Svein Leirdal, got a request from the local furniture producer Ekornes AS, to design an upholstered, adjustable recline chair based on some thoughts that Ekornes had been working on, but not succeeded. MD accepted the assignment. After several attempts based on Ekornes’ ideas, MD decided to start from scratch, now based on their own basic idea, that “Form Follows Function”. Based on this, they developed a new, open steel tube chair, where functions were visible in the in the construction. In this concept they designed two models, by Ekornes named Stressless Original and Stressless® Global.
